The 2.75 version of the Spare Driver App is currently in beta and will move to general release in mid-late February 2026. This article will be updated with the exact date once known.
New Feature - Rider to Driver Location Sharing
Here are some more details about this feature in addition to what was shared in the video above:
Q: When can drivers start to see a rider's location?
A: Only once the driver has arrived at the pickup location will the rider's location be shown on the map.
Q: Can drivers see all rider's locations?
A: The driver can see the locations for all riders who are meant to be at that pickup location. The driver can only see the locations for riders who use the Spare Rider App.
Q: Can a rider opt out of sharing their location with drivers?
A: Absolutely, riders can clearly see on the screen that their location is being shared with drivers, and they can click this button and opt out if they so choose. It looks like this:
If the rider has already provided location services:
If the rider chooses to opt out, they can press on the "Sharing live location" button and then select "Stop Sharing":
The rider will then see this:
If the rider has never given location permissions to the app, then it's asked:
They are taken to a page to inform the user why location permissions are helpful:
And they should select "While Using the App" in Settings
Then they will be sharing their location with drivers:
