Release Timeline
The 2.75 version of the Spare Driver App is currently in beta and will move to general release beginning March 9, with a gradual rollout reaching 100% early in the week of Monday 13th April. This article will be updated as the rollout progresses.
New Feature - Rider to Driver Location Sharing
Here are some more details about this feature in addition to what was shared in the video above:
Q: When can drivers start to see a rider's location?
A: Only once the driver has arrived at the pickup location will the rider's location be shown on the map.
Q: Can drivers see all rider's locations?
A: The driver can see the locations for all riders who are meant to be at that pickup location. The driver can only see the locations for riders who use the Spare Rider App.
Q: Can a rider opt out of sharing their location with drivers?
A: Absolutely, riders can clearly see on the screen that their location is being shared with drivers, and they can click this button and opt out if they so choose. It looks like this:
If the rider has already provided location services:
If the rider chooses to opt out, they can press on the "Sharing live location" button and then select "Stop Sharing":
The rider will then see this:
If the rider has never given location permissions to the app, then it's asked:
They are taken to a page to inform the user why location permissions are helpful:
And they should select "While Using the App" in Settings
Then they will be sharing their location with drivers:
If the user disables location sharing, it will stay disabled on subsequent trips unless the user reinstalls the app or manually re-enables location sharing
Urgent Failure Alerts During Pre-Duty Inspections
Drivers will now see an Urgent Inspection Failures screen when one or more urgent failures are detected during a pre-duty inspection.
The screen lists the specific failed items and their associated messages, and provides a Continue button to proceed.
Drivers are not blocked from starting their duty — they can proceed regardless of any urgent failures flagged during the inspection. Passing an inspection item remains unchanged.
Google Maps traffic layer now visible during navigation
In v2.75, live traffic conditions are now displayed on the map during navigation, showing green, yellow, and red indicators to reflect current road conditions.
'Late Pull-In' Watchlist Alert
Dispatchers can now be alerted when a driver is at risk of not returning to their depot before their duty ends. Drivers are not notified of this alert.
Starting one hour before duty end, the system checks every minute whether the driver can make it back in time. If not, a Late Pull-In alert appears on the Watchlist showing how long they've been flagged. The alert clears automatically once the driver arrives, or the duty is completed or cancelled.

Other Improvements in v2.75 of the Spare Driver App
Vehicle inspections bug: Fixed a bug where instructions were not showing for Pass/Fail form fields for vehicle inspections
Improved voice navigation: You'll receive earlier instructions for when to turn if using Mapbox navigation. Google Maps remains the same.
Improved app stability: Upgraded core navigation framework to the latest industry standard, reducing potential crashes and improving overall reliability.
Smoother animations: Refreshed how cards and bottom sheets respond to swipe gestures for a more fluid experience.
Better crash recovery: Fixed an issue where the app could crash when restoring from the background on certain Android devices.
Performance improvements: Updated underlying libraries to current versions for faster load times and reduced battery usage.
